Escape Route: On May 29, 1942, a Nazi-led killing squad massacred 1,500 Jews from the “expendable” ghetto. Months later, a German railway worker helped Anna avoid the second mass killing, putting her on a train bringing supplies to the Nazi occupation forces further east.
